What is the Proper Role of Government?

Now before I start this post I want to tell everyone that what I am about to tell you is an opinion. I do not intend to impose it on anyone. It is just my desire to share it. What I'm about to tell you may be a bit of a shock but I would really like everyone to think about it.

Ok, here goes....

What is the proper role of government? Have you ever asked that question to yourself? In my opinion, the proper role of government is to protect the lives and property of it's citizens. I hope everyone agrees with that.

But governments these days go beyond that... they get involved in other peoples wars, they mess with the money supply, they tap in on it's citizen's phone conversations. Are they going beyond the call of duty... or are they breaking the two laws: 1. Do all you have agreed to do and 2. Do not encroach on other persons or their properties?

So now that we've defined what government's role is.... let's list what's not the role of government (specifically federal).

The role of government is not to educate it's citizens

The role of government is not to take people's guns away

The role of government is not to take money from rich people to give to the poor

The role of government is not to limit what people can say and can't say

The role of government is not to get involved in wars that do not have anything to do with protecting it's citizens

The role of government is not to make alliances with other countries

The role of government is not to inflate

The role of government is to protect it's citizens.

Can you see how our government has been going beyond their role? They are now encroaching.

Some of you may be able to think of more... if you can, let me know what they are. Also I will be talking about most if not all of these individualy. For now, if you have any questions let me know.

I was just reading excerpts from the Declaration of Independence and thought about your blog. Here's a good quote (reminder) for us all:

"We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with inherent and inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; THAT WHENEVER ANY FORM OF GOVERNMENT BECOMES DESTRUCTIVE OF THESE ENDS, IT IS THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO ALTER OR ABOLISH IT, AND TO INSTITUTE NEW GOVERNMENT, LAYING FOUNDATION ON SUCH PRINCIPLES, AND ORGANIZING ITS POWERS IN SUCH FORM, AS TO THEM SHALL SEEM MOST LIKELY TO EFFECT THEIR SAFETY AND HAPPINESS." I think people needed to be reminded of the power the we have as citizens to change government, and not allow that right to be taken away.
